Mental Health & the Schools: An Overview for School & Mental Health Professionals & Parents
Program Description
School districts are becoming increasingly aware of the need to assist students who have mental health disorders. When done correctly, school districts experience significant cost savings and improvement in student academic outcomes. When done incorrectly, districts expose themselves to numerous problems, including significant legal and financial liabilities. This seminar provides a practical, in-depth overview of the complex intersection of student's mental health issues and the educational systems that serve these students. Participants will learn the ways that mental health disorders manifest in the school environment, how these disorders can be identified early in their course, and methods of providing both educational and mental health interventions to effectively meet these students'needs. School professionals will learn methods of building bridges to mental health systems while maintaining adequate legal and financial firewalls. Mental health professionals will learn methods of partnering with school systems to be able to provide needed diagnostic and treatment services. This comprehensive seminar will help provide strategies, best practices, procedures, methods of collaboration and guidelines to effectively diagnose and treat students with mental health disorders.
